Mission: Educate non-military personnel on the importance of the maritime community

Major focus group: 13-21 year old (junior high, high school and college), plus the general public of all ages. This committee has taken on several new projects starting in 2006. The first is to make the Council more active in supporting our local high school NJROTC units in the area. One major project is to develop a poster competition that will allow Navy League Charleston to have its own distinctive annual poster and provide cash awards for art students in the local high schools. The second major project is to develop a one-day maritime career day fair in which the various members of the maritime community all participate (Navy, USMC, USCG, NOAA, merchant marine and commercial maritime companies). The Education Committee also supports the College of Charleston's Marine Biology Department Annual Scholarship, which is presented to the top rising senior at a Council-sponsored luncheon each fall. New members are welcomed to bring new ideas and new talent to this growing committee.
